As the days of Eastertide slip away and we look ahead to Pentecost, let us consider what we are asking for when we pray “O Come Holy Spirit”. We recall the dramatic events of the first Pentecost, the violent wind, the tongues of fire, yet the most profound experience of Pentecost, was within the minds and hearts of the disciples. They experienced a metanoia, a radical transformation which ignited courage and freedom to live anew, witnessing to Christ’s way of love and peace in their world.

As we prepare for Pentecost and pray “O Come Holy Spirit”, may we be open to the same power and love of the Spirit, expanding our limited horizons, enabling us to let go of past certainties, to be open to transforming grace, that we too, may be energized and courageous in witnessing to the way of love and peace in our world today.
